Qn: How are you doing? My name is Gregory Mabula, I have seen your blog,I would like to get an assistance from you.I have got a laptop computer Dell latitude 600,having 512MB of RAM and 40 Gb hard disk.Recently i was using Windows XP only, but unfortunately I decided to create two partitions and I installed another OS Ubuntu 10.0,the problem with this ubuntu it failed to connect wireless network, but in windows Xp it connects efficiently so i do know the reason behind, please help.

Am fine brother Gregory, there are number of causes for the problem like that to occur and there are several possible solutions. First you can follow these procedures

To connect to the Internet:

1. Open System → Administration → Networking.
2. Select the connection you wish to use, and then click Properties.
3. Ensure Enable this connection is turned on.
4. If you’re ISP or network administrator has given you an IP address, set Configuration to Static IP address, then enter the address in the IP address field and click OK. Otherwise, set Configuration to DHCP and click OK.
5. To activate or deactivate network connections, select your connection, and then click Activate/Deactivate.

Secondly you have to check if your wireless card is automatically detected by Ubuntu since some of them they are not supporting. The easiest way to do this is to use the ndiswrapper tool which allows Ubuntu to use the Microsoft Windows driver for the wireless card .To do this follow this link to read the instructions click here

Hallow Danni the small mistake you have made was not creating the recovery disk or baking up the drivers This disk contain the necessary drivers and programs for your laptop but do not worry log on to HP website and enter the model number of your laptop in the support section here you can download all the drivers and utilities that are necessary for your laptop. Safely store them in CD/DVD incase of any emergence in the future.

Geek
Qn It’s about my computer time. Whenever I switch off the computer the clock stop working and when I restart it I have to set the correct time Changing the bios battery has not helped .What could be the problem and how could I get it rectified?

Hello Geek the problem is related to the motherboard .The battery power is not reaching the RTC (real time clock) circuit and hence when the machine is powered off, the timer shuts down and starts again only when you power up the machine. To rectify this problem you will need to have your motherboard repaired. Contacts a professional engineer but be careful do not mess around with your motherboard.

Qn Please I need help a I am facing trouble with my internet connection while accessing the internet the link breaks after every few minutes For re establishing the broadband connection the computer has to be restarted .The problem persist despite of installing modem and laying down new wiring please help.

Hello Deepthi, The problems seems to be with the windows operating system itself .Check for virus and spyware on your system using a good and updated antivirus program. Reinstall the network card drivers and the TCP and IP protocols if needed .Update the operating system using windows update online Install the latest service pack if available or download the same from the Microsoft website. Finally if the system is still malfunctioning, reinstalling the operating system could help.

Qn Hello webtechjr I have an intel Dual Core system ,1GB RAM, and Windows XP Home edition .Can I install any other operating such as window seven with my current XP Os.

Hello Amit you can definitely install an additional operating system in your machine .Make sure you install the new operating system in a new partition or hard drive .You will not be able to install two operating system in the same partition .Use the partitioning tool such as EASUS partition manager or Partition magic to resize the existing hard drive partition if needed.

Qn hi there whenever I start my computer it ask me to insert the system CD even though the operating system is already installed .Without this the computer does not boot .What should I do?

Hello Nico start the computer with the CD when asked the click ‘start the run’ type the command ‘SFC/SCANNOW’ and press (Enter) .The SFC (system file checker) will scan your system for corrupted or missing system files and replace them accordingly. At this time it will ask you to insert your XP CD in your optical drive .When all is done restart the system to see if the problem is solved. Otherwise update your windows XP to the latest service pack.
